THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
The Empire State Building!! Definitely the most famous New York Skyscraper of all time and so mesmerizing at night. As much as a cliched tourist move as it may be, I went up to the top of the building this summer. There is like a line 2 hours long to get up there. They even have a simulation ride you can do before that in which they brief you on the history of the Empire State Building.
This building was the tallest in the world for 40 years. During the briefing, they also told us that it was a beacon of hope in a country pained by the Great Depression. It was also the fastest made building with up to 3400 workers.
There is a lot of history, world records, accidents and interesting facts relating to the Empire State Building but I'm not copy-pasting a Wikipedia page here. So I'll jump to my favorite part- The amazing TV shows and the movies featuring or flitting through the beauty that is the Empire State Building.
GOSSIP GIRL- CHUCK AND BLAIR
A romantic spot for the famous Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass, the Empire State played a vital role and was often displayed on screen, pretty much every time Chuck wanted to propose to Blair :)
To all the teenage girls obsessed with Gossip Girl, I'm certain we all rooted for them to finally meet on the top and seal the deal with a kiss ;)
INSPIRED MUSIC
The Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z is definitely the song you want to be listening to. New York City has inspired a lot of music but this is like a perfect theme song.
PERCY JACKSON
One of my most loved novel series, by Rick Riordan. The story revolves around Greek Gods and demi-Gods where Olympus is set over the Empire State Buildings. In the 3rd book of the series, a war waged between the Gods and Titans is fought in New York while the Gods manage everything from the top of the Empire State Building!!
KING KONG
Who doesn't remember the great King Kong on top of the Empire State Building? And a slight copied version was also seen in George of The Jungle, an awfully funny movie, if you've ever seen it.
ART
A favorite with Art Teachers, incredibly creative versions of The Empire State Building crop up all over the world.
